1 Thessalonians 4:11
Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands.
If I was able to have coffee with my younger self, she would be surprised that those are my goals in life now. Well, maybe not, due to me being in my Granny years.
Living quietly comes easier for me now. I am enjoying life on my small piece of land, with my 2 dogs, 1 cat and 2 gold fish. I savor the quiet hum of life as I "putter" around my garden or sit on my porch watching the hummingbirds. Being quiet and listening to the peaceful sounds of my little world clears the way to hear God more clearly. Conversation with God is a wonderful way to gain clarity in this chaotic world that we live in.
Two things come to mind when I read "to mind your own affairs". First, gossip comes to mind. Oh, boy! I will admit that I have been on the giving end and receiving end of gossip. I know that gossiping is not pleasing to the Lord and try everyday to stear clear of it. But, my younger self wanted to be accepted by others and partook of it, unfortunately. Second, we call it "being messy". Most of the time, people will ask for help when they need it. Asserting yourself into others situations when you feel they need help, and they haven't asked, can be "messy"! Asking God for discernment can help you know when help is welcomed.
Work with your hands. I love to work with my hands! I have been called crafty so many times. Crocheting, sewing, and painting are just a few of the activities that are an outlet to gain peace and calmness. I recently started baking sourdough. This has been challenging but rewarding! Of the three things listed in the verse, this comes easiest to me.
Quiet living, minding my business and working with my hands are suitable goals for 2025!
